The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Research Compliance Specialist. The Office of Ethics, Policy, and Compliance promotes and supports an academic and working environment that reflects the University’s commitment to maintaining the highest level of integrity and ethical standards in the conduct of its operations. The office serves to uphold the University’s Standards of Ethical Conduct in all areas throughout the University and provides tools and resources to the University community to operate in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Prior experience providing compliance guidance on matters related to research for a university (or commensurate in-house or law firm experience) required. At least 5 years of relevant experience required.

Essential Job Duties: Maintains thorough and up-to-date knowledge of relevant federal, state, and university compliance requirements related to research areas. Guides and supports research compliance efforts at UNC Charlotte, including in the areas of human subject research, animal care and use, conflicts of interest and commitment, biosafety, export controls. In collaboration with the Office of Legal Affairs, supports the University’s Research Integrity Officer (RIO) in responding to allegations of research misconduct. In collaboration with the Office of Legal Affairs, supports the University’s Grants and Contracts Administration in negotiating sponsored research agreements. Establishes effective working relationships within the University’s Research, OneIT, and Academic Affairs divisions. Develops and prepares education and training materials on timely research-related compliance topics. Works closely with the Office of Legal Affairs and the Division of Research to review and revise research-related policies and procedures. Works closely with the Associate General Counsel assigned to research-related legal issues. Other duties as assigned by the Director or the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Integrity.
