ROLE of the POSITION
Housed in the Department of Geoscience, the UNLV-FIA Information Management Research Group is a federally-funded research program. Our group has worked in partnership with the Research & Development division of the USDA Forest Service since 1998. We provide data management and analysis solutions and software and database programming support for the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) National Program, which researches and reports on the status and trends of America's forests. The purpose of this position is to provide analysis, design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of FIA information management systems and tools. There are opportunities to work on a variety of FIA projects, with project assignment based on the employee's particular skillset and on FIA priorities. Project responsibilities include information management systems development (e.g., full-stack application programming and/or RDBMS development), systems analysis, stakeholder engagement (e.g., requirements gathering), design and prototyping, debugging/testing, and technical documentation. This is a fixed-term position based on 97.5% FTE with potential for promotion to a regular position.
NOTE: This position will work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
Technical Skills:
Languages: Java, JavaScript, SQL, PL/SQL (optional: C#, PHP, Python, R)
Client/Browser Technologies: HTML, CSS, jQuery

RDBMS: Familiarity with Oracle, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server (optional: Oracle Spatial, Microsoft Access)

Environments: Familiarity with cloud environments, CI/CD deployments (optional: PL/SQL Developer, Eclipse or IntelliJ Idea IDE)
Version Control: Git or similar platform
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 1 year of experience is required to apply (10+ years preferred). A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred but not required. Similar work experience, technical skills, or relevant certification may be considered in place of a Bachelor’s degree. The ability to pass a federal background check and obtain and maintain the credentials necessary to access the federal network and tools is required for this position.
SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
