IRB Program Manager (Administrative Program Manager 3)
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Regulatory Affairs, the Program Manager (Administrative Program Manager 3) will provide leadership and oversight of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the Storrs and regional campuses to ensure compliance with federal regulatory and University policies involving research with human subjects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides day-to-day operational oversight of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Storrs campus as well as the Hartford, Waterbury, Avery Point, and Stamford campuses. Establishes, updates/maintains internal operating procedures; assures proper maintenance of research compliance systems and records; and provides analyses and advocates for appropriate resources and budgets.
- Aligns departmental processes and organizational structure with academic, clinical, research, and institutional priorities including implementing efficient and cost-effective strategies and processes.
- Monitors and evaluates staffing, including hiring, scheduling, training and development, and work distribution processes/workload.
- Develops and administers policies and procedures consistent with pertinent laws and regulations and monitors compliance.
- Prepares reports and provides data for decision-making purposes.
- Serves as a member of the IRB and other compliance boards/committees, and provides oversight/assurance of related activities, including member appointments, scheduling of meetings, selection of protocols for full board reviews, preparation of meeting materials (agendas, summaries, minutes), and distribution of decisions.
- Assures stakeholder compliance with all training requirements.
- Serves as a content area expert and resource to students, staff, faculty, and community members on matters related to human subjects’ research and program policies, procedures, and activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field with 8 years of related experience. At least one year of the experience must be serving as a supervisor of a moderate-sized department or unit, in a research-intensive organizational setting, responsible for carrying out cross-disciplinary tasks or functions.
- Extensive knowledge of protocols and federal regulations regarding research conducted with human subjects.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate compliance issues and enforce compliance standards and requirements across constituencies.
- Demonstrated ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in the interpretation and application of policies.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively within tight timelines and deadline pressure.
- Considerable critical thinking, problem-solving crisis management, and decision-making abilities.
- CIP certification.
- Experience working in an institution of higher education.
