CONTRACT VETERINARY DIAGNOSTICIAN
Salary: $5,916.67 - $12,733.33/MO

Under the general direction of the faculty supervisor, provide timely diagnostic pathology services, including necropsy and histopathology, as required for avian, mainly poultry species with an emphasis on disease diagnosis. Assist with resident, student and staff training and oversight. Provide consultation, advice and guidance to veterinarians and producers regarding poultry and avian wildlife disease diagnosis, control and prevention.
This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory.

This job will be posted for 4 weeks; however, we will be screening applications after 2 weeks of posting and may fill the position prior to the closing date.
Minimum Qualifications:
• DVM or equivalent degree with experience in avian diseases and pathology.
• Board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV) or the European College of Poultry Veterinary Science (ECPVS) or the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) required. Should appointment be extended beyond one year, board certification will be required within three years of the date of initial hire.
• Knowledge of veterinary medicine; diagnostic veterinary pathology; state and federal regulations applicable to the practice of veterinary medicine and to regulation of livestock, poultry and meat industries; and public relations.
• Skill in operation of microscopes, necropsy equipment (e.g., band saw, stryker saw, surgical & necropsy instruments), computer, laboratory equipment (e.g., biosafety cabinet, electronic scales).
• Knowledge and skills to apply existing theory and research findings to define unusual and complex problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions, comprehend an extensive variety of highly complex and technical material, prepare meaningful, accurate and concise reports, handle sensitive inquiries from contacts with animal owners and veterinarians.
• Skills to respond appropriately in emergency situations, e.g., suspected foreign animal diseases or diseases that impact public health.
• Knowledge and skills to dispose of hazardous and contaminated materials in a safe manner and in accordance with campus and EH&S policies and procedures.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide variety of individuals including co-workers, clients of CAHFS, and other University units, outside and government agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Skills in computer data entry and related software applications
