Typical Duties
Employment Standards
Education/Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and; four years of increasingly responsible payroll accounting experience.
Knowledge of: Federal and State laws pertaining to payroll processing activities, principles and practices of payroll accounting, general accounting practices and procedures, recordkeeping principles and techniques, automated payroll systems and general clerical office methods and procedures.
Skill/Ability to: Communicate sufficiently to interpret and explain technical information to others; read, understand and interpret laws, regulations, personnel policies, memoranda of understanding and other changes that affect the payroll system; perform highly technical fiscal and statistical recordkeeping; analyze the effect of payroll processing changes; research, collect and organize material into a manageable form; identify and solve departmental payroll problems and to improve payroll services.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Supervisory techniques; county policies, procedures, and regulations related to payroll operations; electronic payroll and leave systems; electronic labor management systems.
Skill/Ability to: Assign, review and evaluate the work of others.
Additional Information
Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions. An Employment Eligibility Verification using E-Verify may be required on the first day of employment for some positions. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
