Conduct seizures and examinations of electronic devices including cell phones/smart phones, tablets, laptops, personal computers and corresponding electronic data storage media to secure and recover data as evidence; seizure and examination may occur in laboratory or field settings; assist Detectives and multi-jurisdictional law enforcement agencies in legal preparation of search warrants and subpoenas to properly obtain subscriber records and seizure of all types of electronic devices and media as evidence and for ESP/ISP subscriber records and content; conduct and participate in Internet-based investigations, including online operations regarding property crimes including fraud, forgery, ID theft, and may assist in other department investigations including child exploitation, child pornography, underage prostitution, cyberstalking and persons crimes such as homicides and assaults; compose reports on finding from digital evidence analysis; maintain forensic server and network. Perform system backups; handle any issues with server connectivity; prepare for defense interviews and trials. Put together all relevant case information in easy-to understand format. Present the case to prosecutors and defense teams for mandatory, pre-trial defense interviews; present case(s) in trial and respond to questions regarding findings; collect, preserve, label, catalog, and store evidentiary items for presentation in criminal proceedings in accordance with legal standards; keep current knowledge of tools and trends in the field of Digital Forensics.
Employment Standards:
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would four-year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Criminal Justice AND One (1) year of experience in detecting, recovering, and analyzing data recovered from electronic devices, preferably for the purpose of obtaining evidence in law enforcement investigations OR Two-year Associate's Degree in Computer Science or Criminal Justice AND three (3) years of experience in detecting, recovering and analyzing data recovered from electronic devices, preferably for the purpose of obtaining evidence in law enforcement investigations.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Procession of one industry accepted certification directly related to digital forensics, such as IACIS certified •Cellebrite certified (preferred), EnCase (EnCE preferred), SCERS, AccessData FTK or other industry accepted certification(s) directly related to digital forensics.
Knowledge of: Computer Skills •Intermediate skill utilizing two or more of the following platforms used for digital forensics analysis: EnCase, Cellebrite, X-Ways, and/or AccessData FTK; principles, methods and practices of investigation, evidence identification and collection; multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, OSX, Android, IOS; other various electronic devices, hardware and peripherals.
Skill/Ability to : Utilize computer hardware and software and other equipment commonly used in analysis and recovery of computer data; interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations; maintain confidentiality related to the area of work; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
