The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) seeks an experienced and enthusiastic leader in post-award finance to be the next Associate Controller for Sponsored Projects Post-Award (Associate Controller). Reporting to the Comptroller and Chief Accounting Officer, the Associate Controller leads the operations of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Post-Award.  The Associate Controller will assume responsibility for providing the highest quality of seamless research finance support for faculty research efforts through leadership and financial administration of grants and contracts received by UMMC. This individual must bring the strategic capacity to envision and implement administrative, finance, and management systems that enhance research goals, provide first-class service, and keep pace with the thriving research enterprise that enjoys an esteemed reputation and ambitious plans for the future.

UMMC is a fast growing $1.7 billion organization and is Mississippi’s only academic medical center, providing a Level I Trauma Center, Level IV NICU, a children’s hospital, and solid organ transplantation services. UMMC’s impact on the entire state is substantial and it is looked to as the premier leader of healthcare decisions, forward-thinking ideas, and influence on the residents and healthcare providers across Mississippi. UMMC is on an upward trajectory with an impressive 2025 Strategic Plan with goals including: maximizing value in quality of care; driving strategic clinical growth; expanding health care services statewide; positioning academic programs for the next generation of learners; and strengthening research programs. The successful candidate for this outstanding opportunity will be an individual who can; balance the dual responsibilities of compliance and customer service; provide both daily guidance to investigators, departmental managers, supervisors; and staff, while also developing long-range goals and strategic planning for the office; and possess exceptional communication skills in creating relationships with both internal and external constituencies. This position requires a demonstrated breadth of knowledge in grant and contract regulations, accounting principles and practices, as well as finance and fund accounting systems. The incumbent will be a detail-oriented problem solver with the ability to manage multiple projects at one time and have a passion and commitment to quality of service.
