TV/Radio Booking Intern
McClatchy and CalMatters are looking for a TV/Radio Booking Intern who will assist in increasing the visibility of reporting by both organizations.
This internship is a paid position at 20 to 30 hours per week and is based in downtown Sacramento. It reports to McClatchy’s Community Manager and is a six-month internship.
We will train the intern on all aspects of media booking including working with news organizations to secure appearances and interviews of journalists from CalMatters and McClatchy (including The Sacramento Bee and journalists from its 29 other newsrooms across the country). The successful candidate will learn how to book journalists on TV, radio and other platforms. The intern will focus on developing media visibility for CalMatters and McClatchy and create outreach communications plans including pitch emails, phone calls and finding opportunities via social media. The intern will then match reporters with placement opportunities, and at times accompany reporters to appearances.
The intern will track booking appearances and create monthly reports. S/he will also monitor the journalism produced by CalMatters and McClatchy in order to pitch appropriate outlets for interview.
The intern will also be trained on a ReadyCam system and learn how to train others in this live shot studio.
She or he will work with the community manager to build lists of target news outlets, programs and producers to capture, maintain and organize booker contact information via collaborative work.
Requirements: A passion for news and a willingness to be fully immersed in the California media space in particular, and familiarity with national news programs. An educational focus in journalism or marketing.
