IT Support Technician
Salary: $55,293 – $74,097

JOB OPPORTUNITY
The Superior Court of California, County of Kings, has an opening for a full-time IT Support Technician position.

About the Position:

This is the entry level position for the Information Technology job series. It is a journey-level multi-
disciplinary technical support job classification. Incumbents independently perform a wide range of routine and reoccurring technical support services for an assigned department and identify and enlist additional resources to handle more complex issues or problems.

Under general supervision to respond to Help Desk calls from court personnel. User support duties typically involve operations issues and transactions such as printer malfunctions, system access, password reset, account log-off, error messages and removing viruses and spy ware. Desktop support duties typically include routine installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and software support for department desktop workstations and conducting workstation ergonomic reviews. Production and/or server support duties typically include installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and production support for department servers and mid-range computers including hardware, operating system software and communication protocols. Application support duties typically include supporting the operation, maintenance, and upgrading of department-specific applications, the provision of user support and training, and user group management. This position serves as the first point of contact for the provision of routine technical support to system users.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain inventory of addresses, laptops, workstations, servers and peripheral equipment; prepare decommissioned workstations for surplus pickup and/or storage; order equipment and supplies as required.
  • Write user operating instructions for departmental applications and equipment; present training, documentation and other materials to user groups and individuals.

User Support

  • Serve as technical resource and primary point of contact for departmental system users; provide desktop and end-user support by remote session, telephone, email or in person.
  • Troubleshoot and assist users in solving operational hardware and software application problems; evaluate problem severity and resolve or escalate to appropriate personnel or vendor for resolution.
  • Set-up employee workstations and make equipment adjustments as needed.
  • Support the department’s use of audio-visual equipment including laptops, televisions, and projectors;
  • Set-up and provide technical support to presentations.
  • Assist with the production and editing of multi-media including recordings, presentation, and videos; setup web cast and video conference meetings; duties include media conversion, editing backup and storage of analog and digital data

Desktop Support

  • Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade department computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Install software on user workstations and provide instructions and training in their use.
  • Install and replace internal computer components such as memory, hard drives and sound devices.
  • Maintains and establishes user profiles for PC deployment.

Production/Server Support

  • Assist Senior IT Staff with the routine installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrading of servers and computers.
  • Perform routine system administration functions according to desktop security policies, which include monitoring and adding applications, users and devices, modifying user profiles, re-setting passwords and performing file maintenance.

Application Support

  • Perform routine data entry, which includes entering or uploading data to data bases.
  • Execute transfer of large, confidential files between systems.
  • Assist with routine web development functions entering or uploading internet content, updating routine or standard content and applying graphic features.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Completion of college level course work in Management Information Systems,
Computer Science, Network Engineering or a closely related field equivalent to an associate's degree.
AND
EXPERIENCE: One year of IT experience preferably in network and information system administration
and desktop support and maintenance.
OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying as determined by the Court Executive Officer.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid California Class ‘C” driver’s license. Ability to qualify for a security clearance through fingerprinting, traffic and criminal record background investigation, and random drug testing.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity; eye-hand coordination; occasional lift and move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Travel may be required outside of Kings County to attend meetings, conferences, and trainings.

• Paid Sick Leave- Full-time court employees accrue 10 – 16 days (based on years of service)
• Paid Vacation Leave- Full-time court employees accrue 10 – 25 days (based on years of service)

Health Insurance: The court offers three levels of medical coverage for employees to elect. The court pays 100% of the employee medical, dental and vision premiums and contributes a substantial amount towards dependent(s) coverage. Employees who waive court-sponsored medical insurance and who provide proof of other group medical insurance are eligible to receive $274 per pay period (24 periods per year).

Life Insurance: The court gives you the ability to help financially protect your family/beneficiaries with Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance. You have the option to supplement the court-paid $15,000 policy with life insurance for family members and additional coverage for yourself through Voluntary Life Insurance.

Retirement: The court pays a considerable bi-weekly contribution on behalf of the employee to
California Public Employee Retirement System (CALPERS). All regular employees are required to enroll in CALPERS and contribute 6.5% bi-weekly for the defined benefit plan [2% at age 62].

Deferred Compensation: The court offers employees the ability to participate in 457 deferred-compensation plan.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The court provides employees with support for a wide variety of challenges through EAP. Benefits include up to three (3) sessions, every six (6) months of face-to-face confidential counseling.
