Classification: Operator-In-Training/Operator I/Operator II /Operator III
Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Plant Operations Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and facilities.
Salary: Operator-In-Training $2,809 - $3,585 per month (Range 4 “A” step through “Y” step)
Operator I: $3,596 - $4,590 per month (Range 14 “A” step through “Y” step)
Operator II: $3,872 - $4,943 per month (Range 17 “A” step through “Y” step)
Operator III: $4,170 - $5,323 per month (Range 20 “A” step through “Y” step)
*Up to 7.5% wage rate increase for additional certification pay.
Regular Work Hours: Daylight Saving Time: 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. End of Daylight Savings Time: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Must be able to work standby, overtime, weekends, evenings and holidays.
Requirements for Operator-in-training: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license at time of appointment. One or more years of experience in routine maintenance on equipment and operating heavy equipment. Incumbents hired at this level are required to obtain and maintain a Grade I certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board within 18 months of hire date; Grade II within 36 months of hire date; and Grade III within 54 months of hire date.
Requirements for Operator I: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license at time of appointment. Possession and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board. One or more years of experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Incumbents at this level are required to obtain and maintain a Grade II certificate within 18 months of hire date and Grade III within 36 months of hire date.
Requirements for Operator II: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license at time of appointment. Possession and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board. Two or more years of experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Incumbents at this level are required to obtain and maintain a Grade III certificate within 30 months of hire date
Requirements for Operator III: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license at time of appointment. Possession and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board. Three or more years of experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Must be able to respond to calls within 45 minutes for standby and on-call work.
Education: Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade with supplemental course work in the treatment of wastewater.

Health, dental and vision insurance partial paid by District for employee only; dependent coverage available paid by employee. Life insurance for employee paid by District. CalPERS 2% at 62 retirement system instead of Federal Social Security. Employees hired after February 9, 2012 will pay 100% of the employee contribution/share required to participate in CalPERS.
