Job Description:

Description of Duties:

The University at Albany is seeking an Assistant Project Director for the Educational Opportunity Centers program (TRIO EOC). UAlbany TRIO EOC is funded by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to provide counseling and information on college admissions to 850 qualified adults in the Capital Region who want to enter or continue a program of postsecondary education. The Assistant Project Director must be committed to the goals of TRIO EOC, and preference will be given to individuals from similar backgrounds as TRIO EOC participants. The Assistant Project Director will be responsible for publicizing the program and recruiting/selecting participants; providing counseling and leading workshops and related programming on various college admissions topics (e.g. taking the GED, completing financial aid applications, and applying to postsecondary programs); supervising the administrative assistant, graduate assistant and tutors/mentors; collecting and maintaining data on participants' needs and progress; conducting participant surveys; and assisting with the compilation of ED Performance Reports. The Assistant Project Director will plan all program functions and serve as editor for the program newsletter and web page.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from a college or university accredited by the ED or internationally recognized accrediting organization in any fields.
  • Experience advising or teaching students from groups underrepresented in postsecondary education.
  • Strong organization skills, oral, written and computer skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to exercise independent judgment.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to multi-task and supervise in a fast paced and diverse environment.
  • Ability to travel between project work sites, including travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation.
  • Must be able to work on Saturdays and evenings.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Administrative experience, ideally with externally funded grant programs, including grant writing, annual reports, managing budgets.
  • Working in higher education.
  • Life experiences like the life experiences of UAlbany TRIO EOC participants.

Additional Information:

Salary Range:  $58,000-$63,000
