Supervisor Trainee
SUMMARY
Will work and train with the current Program Director with a goal of "transitioning" to the Program Director position. The Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the Teresa Shelter, Maria House Transitional and Permanent Supportive Housing Programs. Works as a team member in giving direction to the program staff and women/children in keeping with the mission, vision and values of Opening Doors. Also responds to emergency situations and deals with conflicts that may arise with the residents or within Opening Doors Programs. The Program Director supervises all part-time and full-time program staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include but are not limited to the following and all other duties as assigned.
PROGRAM DUTIES:
- Responds to inquiries from potential residents or referring agencies at Teresa Shelter, interviews, selects, gives program orientation, and completes admission paperwork with new residents for Opening Doors Programs;
- Develops, maintains, and ensures that policies and protocols are being reviewed and updated with assistance from the Executive Director;
- Maintains accounts resident’s occupancy fee at Maria House, and maintains and monitors petty cash for the programs;
- Responsible for Service Point reports, monitoring Service Point compliance and ensuring Opening Doors resident statistics/outcomes are being reported and monitored;
- Utilizes logs book to communicate pertinent information regarding residents to staff;
- Develops agenda of the Opening Doors Operations Committee Agenda and Buildings and Grounds Committee Agenda with input from Executive Director;
- Inspect all permanent supportive housing resident apartments once a month;
- Graciously accepts and logs donations from the community;
- Apply restricted funds for resident needs and collect receipts for all expenses;
- Manage the Director’s Approval and Banned List;
- Coordinate with Dubuque Police Department for drug-sniffing dog to come to Teresa Shelter and Maria House
AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides education to the community on issues of homelessness (speaking engagements/tours);
- Develops a monthly staff schedule for Teresa Shelter staff and plans and facilitates regular monthly staff meetings with Opening Doors staff;
- Facilitates interviewing, hiring, supervision, evaluation, disciplining, and terminating program staff;
- Responsible for all donation requests and calls;
- Responsible for building relationships with business partners to develop job opportunities for residents;
- Responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll;
- Assist with annual budget preparation;
- Provides statistical information needed for grants;
- Participates in fundraising efforts to support Opening Doors;
- Provides monthly board reports with monthly bed nights, intake calls, and statistics for all Opening Doors Programs;
- Schedule all inspections and maintenance repairs for Teresa Shelter and Maria House;
- Assumes duties of other staff in their absence, provides coverage for Executive Director in her absence, and is on rotation for on-call when problems arise within the Opening Doors Programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Case Managers, Program Assistant, Program Advocates, Maintenance Person, Volunteers, Interns, Work Study Students
- Coordinate all staff training and regular meetings
QUALITIFICATIONS:
- BA in Social Work or related human service field with at least three years’ experience with progressive responsibilities;
- Demonstrate an ability to exercise general knowledge of office equipment, demonstrate sensitivity and commitment to all residents, and demonstrate calm demeanor in emergency and crisis situations;
- Valid Drivers’ License and proof of insurance
- Certified or willing to be certified in First Aid/CPR, Mandatory Reporting, and Mental Health First Aid

- Require above average judgment to deal appropriately with confidential information, and ability to apply advanced thinking as needed;
- Ability to be self-aware of past trauma/triggers, and personal mental health;
- Ability to take care of self and know personal limits/boundaries;
