Job Description |
This position is responsible for providing academic advising and pertinent program information to a variety of student populations including distance, on-line, print-based, specialized programs, veterans, first generation, those on academic probation, reinstated student, etc. This position facilitates increase retention by creating and implementing action plans. Using Appreciative Advising, manages the path of prospective students or current students in planning an online academic program available through eLearning Ohio with a regular load of 200-300 students. Counsel students in specific curriculum decisions, including the appropriate choice of courses, scheduling of courses, deadlines and other related matters. Reviews student transcripts and assists in making decisions regarding transfer of credits into the degree program, requests for experiential credit and other related matters. Interprets academic regulations and serves as a resource for students, faculty and others having questions about programs, academic policies and other pertinent information; makes referrals and provides information for resolution of problems as appropriate. Uses My Ohio Success Network (MOSN), On-Base and other data for early intervention with students at risk. Collaborates with the Retention Coordinator to create and implement targeted intervention, retention and student success. Monitors student progress and works closely with faculty or facilitators and other areas within eLearning OHIO and across the University to coordinate services to matriculated online degree seeking students. Plans and is responsible for scheduling and registration activities, orientation programs and other similar activities with community college partner sites as assigned. Collaborates with other advisors and faculty/staff regularly. Compiles statistical reports and assists in recruiting new students. Advises students on the application process and requirements for admission. Assists students with the admission process as appropriate (print-based.) Writes and/or edits informational and publicity materials as requested. Participate in unit planning, professional development activities and campus committees as appropriate. |
Minimum Qualifications |
A master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling, or a related field plus a minimum of three years experience providing academic advising to students, preferably adult or distance learners. |
