Sports Editor
As the Sports Editor you will manage the department of sports reporters covering sports-related news and events.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with staff to gather story ideas
- Assist staff in writing stories
- Write sports headlines
- Responsible for layout of sports section pages
- Coordinate special sports tabs
- Meet deadlines and ensure reporters meet schedules as well
- Select photos to accompany stories
- Attend weekly department meetings
- Assist with employee performance reviews.
- Assist in hiring sports reporters
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in newspaper industry
- Excellent knowledge of language, grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively both verbally and in writing
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2+ years of experience in the print and internet media industry.
Technology Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or word processing programs.
• Writing and editing skills and AP Style required.
• Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop a plus.
• Ability to learn other relevant software programs is important.
Education
Bachelor's degree or related areas of equivalency
Physical Activities Involved: Sitting at desk for extended periods of time. Standing for a period of time while covering sports events.
