Bi-Lingual (Spanish) Legal Assistant
Lawyer in growing solo practice seeks bi-lingual assistant to assist with client interviews, preparation of documents, and court filings. Initially this will be a remote position on a contract basis. Paralegal certification preferred but not required. Most work can be done remotely. May need to interview clients in person in Fresno. Hourly position. $25 - 35 per hour depending on background and experience. I represent low-income clients in housing, civil rights and disability discrimination cases. Most translation work will be for unlawful detainer trial preparation or investigation of slum housing conditions. I sue slumlords. Must be passionate about social justice. Flexible hours and days. Client availability and court deadlines drive scheduling, pace, and workload. Work is highly rewarding but can be very fast-paced and high pressure due to short court deadlines and dire consequences for clients if they are evicted. My home office is in Pacific Grove, CA, but I travel to Fresno frequently for client interviews, mediation, and trial. Background in community organizing helpful. Candidates must be organized, passionate, fluent in both Spanish and English (indigenous languages helpful.) Strong computer, writing and telephone skills required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word) and willing to learn law-specific programs such as Clio and Westlaw.
