UTILITY TREATMENT PLANTS SUPERINTENDENT
CITY OF PATASKALA, OHIO
The City of Pataskala is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Utility Treatment Plants Superintendent. Applicants should have prior experience in the operation and maintenance of water and/or sanitary sewer distribution and collection systems. The ideal candidate would possess working knowledge of EPA rules and regulations, experience in heavy equipment operation, OSHA and other safety regulations, as well as a working knowledge of general utilities layout.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Director of Utility Services, performs a variety of administrative functions,
and labor required to maintain and operate public utility facilities including distribution and
collection systems, with responsibility for maintenance of pumps and systems including all
operations of the water and wastewater treatment plants, and the City’s entire water and wastewater
utility system. Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Administration
• Prepare all reports as assigned by the Director
• Assist in the preparation of budget and other administrative documents
• Complete and record all maintenance efforts under the Utility Maintenance Tracking Program
• Provides training and support for other employees
• Schedules and assigns normal maintenance projects
• Schedules and assigns projects which have been assigned by the Director
• Provides direction and training for the employees under his/her responsibility
• Fill out EPA reports as assigned
Facility Maintenance
• Assist in inspecting designated City facilities, operational equipment, and infrastructure
inspections
• Performs troubleshooting functions on operational equipment
• Performs actual repairs and maintenance on equipment when necessary
• Assists operators in operation of treatment plants
• Makes repairs on Utility Facilities
• Checks pumping stations
• Assists in the repair of water distribution leaks
• Assists in collection system maintenance i.e. sewer backups
Emergency Work
• Required to take emergency calls as needed
• Required to respond to plant and system emergencies as required
• Supervise work in this category as needed
• Assist other departments as required by the Utility Director
Equipment Operation
• Operates and maintains a variety of equipment used in the above work, including trucks,
backhoes, riding mower, and all operational equipment within the Division of Utilities.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repair work such as lubricating and cleaning of jobrelated vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment
Safety
• Serve as the Lead Safety Inspector for all Utility Facilities and Projects
• Provides guidance to employees regarding safety
• Assists the Director in establishing Safety Procedures
• Follows established safety procedures.
• Reports unsafe conditions to Director.
• Assists with department housekeeping including storage of tools and equipment.
• Makes written and oral reports on operations of the Department
Other Duties
• Other related duties as required or assigned
• Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks required to maintain and/or operate public facilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY TO POSITION
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Experience in water and wastewater treatment facilities
• Knowledge of treatment facilities operation and maintenance
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of job-related vehicles, machinery, tools, and
equipment.
• Knowledge of general utilities layout
• General knowledge of electrical equipment and functioning.
• Must have excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Ability to work courteously with elected officials, other City employees and the general
public
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain the requirements to be insured by the
City’s automotive liability policy
• May be required to possess an Ohio Commercial Drivers License and therefore may be
subject to drug and alcohol testing (must be able to pass drug test).
• Must obtain or be in the process to obtain a Water Treatment 1 and a Waste Water Treatment
3 EPA license
• Will be required to be on call.
• Must be available for work during other normal working hours.
• Ability to motivate and earn loyalty of fellow employees
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NOT OBVIOUS FROM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Must be able to perform heavy labor for extended periods of time in adverse weather
conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds multiple times during the workday
