Accounting Specialist
Chicago Meat Authority (CMA) is proud to have celebrated 28 years in the food industry. Located in Chicago’s historic Stockyards, CMA is a forward thinking processor of value added beef, pork, and poultry items with a strong focus on selling the Healthcare, Hotel, and Institutional Markets (HRI), meat purveyors, and Multi-unit regional and national chains up to and including big box stores. In addition, CMA specializes in custom cuts for further processors including but not limited to grinding operations, deli manufacturers, and the prepared entrée market.
CMA is seeking an Accounting Specialist that is highly motivated, detailed-oriented, strong time management skills, and the ability to follow guidelines and procedures consistently. This individual will be responsible for A/P, A/R and other accounting functions.
Essential Functions:
- Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment
- Process 3 way P.O. matching invoices
- Prioritize invoices according to cash discount potential and payment terms
- Process check requests
- Audit and process credit card bills
- Match invoices to checks, obtain all signatures for checks and distribute checks accordingly
- 1099 maintenance
- Perform daily A/R responsibilities including generating invoices and processing payments that are received
- Serve as backup for the front desk
- Support the Sales department with special customer requests
- Support the Human Resources department
- Assist with other projects as needed
Job Requirements:
- Accounting experience preferred but not required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills; must be detail oriented
- Ability to multi-task
- Open to change and willing to learn new skills
- Ability to follow up on pending issues
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Microsoft Office, Word and Excel at an intermediate level are a must
