Central Arkansas Water (CAW), an award-winning water utility serving Little Rock-North Little Rock and surrounding areas, is currently seeking a skilled, inspiring, collaborative, innovative, and visionary leader with outstanding skills to serve as Sustainability Manager for the utility. CAW, the largest drinking water supplier in the state of Arkansas, is located in the heart of the state’s vibrant and thriving center of business, education, research and technology along the Arkansas River and serves a retail and wholesale population of more than 450,000 in 19 cities and communities.
Job Summary
The Sustainability Manager will focus on achieving and supporting goals impacting the long-term sustainability of CAW; will work across all departments to ensure CAW is meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs; and will focus on two pillars of “the triple bottom line” ensuring CAW maintains healthy economic and environmental bottom lines – emphasis on profit and planet.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Economics, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Communications, Sociology, Education plus 2 years of related experience (OR)
- Equivalent work experience working to build strategic partnerships and improve environmental awareness and performance
- Must have knowledge of sustainability methodologies
- Must have the ability to think critically and demonstrate an openness to innovation
- Must be a high-performing, innovative, values-driven, informed & passionate leader
- Master’s degree in a stated field; experience presenting at regional or national seminars, workshops, or conferences on relevant topics; published relevant articles, studies, or commentary; lectured/ trained on relevant subject matter at collegiate level or similar educational opportunities; certification in BREEAM & ISO 1401 EMS (if not, be prepared to work on these after hire); & have Six Sigma Green Belt or similar qualification are preferred
- Must have experience leading groups/teams of 5 or more; excellent plus, proficient with MS Office Suite
- Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly establish credibility, develop, and manage productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Must have the ability to engage & work with diverse staff & leadership to promote trust & collaboration; able to remain solution-focused & respectful in all interactions with staff, vendors, customers, community organizations, and elected officials; and able to manage multiple projects effectively & quickly from one to another
- Must have excellent skills in written and oral communications including specifically effective intercultural communication skills & ability to advocate/address issues of diversity, equity & inclusiveness
